A Little About Elijah

Because this is my first in-person semester at PNW, I feel that it would be a good idea to introduce myself beyond the day-one introductions we gave in class. I am Elijah Gott, and I am from DeMotte, Indiana, a small town filled with cornfields about 40 minutes south of PNW Hammond's campus. I have spent much of my life playing sports, mostly basketball and baseball, but later in life I lost my love for both sports, so I now only play them recreationally. However, in 8th grade, I began to run track, which I fell in love with, so I stuck with that all throughout high school, but my senior track season was sadly cut short due to COVID.

I spent the first semester of last school year at Purdue West Lafayette, and hated it. Firstly, I was an engineering major, which I quickly found I was not for me. Also, because of COVID, I was unable to do a lot of social things, causing me to have a very isolated semester. This isolation, combined with the fact that freshmen typically can\"t have cars on campus there, caused me to almost feel trapped, and made me want to escape more than anything. Despite all of these negatives from that semester, I am glad I at least got to experience living at a big college, and I am also glad that I transferred to PNW.

Outside of school, I feel that I live a very normal life: I still live with my parents, I have a retail job, and I spend a lot of my free time either playing video games or spending time with my friends. I am very fascinated by technology, which is a major part of why I decided to become a computer science major. I have found that I actually enjoy coding quite a bit, so I am really happy with my decision to change my major from engineering to computer science.

  1. I also played sports all of my life and now can only play recreationally. It's tough to stop doing something you love. Another thing that we have in common is that I went to Purdue Lafayette last year as well. I did not like it as much as I thought I was going to and definitely felt trapped like you. I am hoping this school year is better for both of us!
