Tyler, the Creator

I was first introduced to Tyler, the Creator by my good friend Josh when I was in 8th grade. Like many fans of his music, my introduction to Tyler was the song Yonkers, an extremely edgy and controversial song that coincided with a video of Tyler eating a cockroach. This song and video went viral, which thrusted Tyler into the spotlight in 2011. Like I said, I was introduced to Tyler in 8th grade, which was about 5 years after Yonkers. Tyler had released two more albums since then, both of which I fell in love with. Wolf was widely considered to be his best album, while CHERRY BOMB was considered to be a confusing mess of an album, but that didn't stop me from enjoying both equally.

Since I was first introduced to Tyler, the Creator, he has released three more albums. All three of them are among my favorite albums of all time, however I believe his 2019 album IGOR is my favorite album of his, and may even be my favorite album of all time. IGOR is unlike any album I've ever heard, although it has been classified as a "Neo-Soul / Experimental Hip-Hop" album, whatever that means. One of my favorite songs comes from this album as well, called "GONE GONE / THANK YOU," which invokes so many different emotions and feelings from me, but afterward I am always left amazed by how beautiful the track is. I believe that with some songs, Tyler himself is amazed by his creations. Although I can't find the tweet right now, Tyler tweeted something along the lines of "I can't believe I made SWEET," which is a song from his newest album, Call Me If You Get Lost. Although I am not musically inclined whatsoever, Tyler has become an inspiration for me, especially because of the passion and love he shows for his music, and because of his often repeated message to do what YOU want to do, not what others want from you.

Tyler, The Creator Making SWEET

  1. That's so cool! I've always been curious about how creators make such an amazing music. And I absolutely agree with you that the message behind that specific music can go into our soul and make us to think about what is important.
